No matter if you are a professional blogger or not, you must consider installing some fundamental plugins to your wordpress blog, which will enhance its functionality and eventually make it look prettier and feel secure.
First of all if you want to get rid of spam bots, fake commenters and so on, install Akismet. I don't say that it's the best antispam plugin, but it works fair enough for me and that's why I recommend it.
